Institute of Neurobiology
Welcome to the website of the Institute for Neurobiology of Heidelberg University! Embedded into the wider network of the Interdisciplinary Center for Neurosciences we explore the structure and functioning of the nervous system of living organisms.
The scientific focus in our discipline lies on the interaction between neurons, synaptic processes and the effect of various neuroactive compounds on the nervous system.
Neurobiology looks at the nervous system on a systemic, cytological and molecular biological level. Another focus of this specialist area is the investigation of the neuronal system with regard to its evolutionary, ontogenetic and phylogenetic aspects.
Research into the processes of cognitive perception, sensory physiology and learning are also part of neurobiology. Neurobiology conducts basic research and thus has a scientific partnership with subjects such as human medicine, veterinary medicine, human biology, neurophysiology and biotechnology.
